4 December 2006 : Return from Melbourne
9 days in the vibrant city of Melbourne was certainly not enough, and will have to return in the not too distant future, to sample more shopping, food and colour of the SouthBank, entertainment around 'Federation Square', and more of the 'Queen Victoria Markets'. The array of meat and cheeses was an overpowering visual feast, and a challenge to restrain the desire to consume all on display. Trams everywhere, designed and operated in a manner to make any engineer envious of the fantastic infrastructure ... making it simple to travel around the city, from the Victoria National Museum to the National Gallery ... all so superbly set out.
Most amusing was the night outside Federation Square a tram appeared covered in vibrant colour and lights, reminiscent of a Pakistani Bus, complete with middle eastern music for all to hear within 200m. These people know how to attract attention!!!
Culturally the city is a collision of Greek, Italian and Asian cultures ... while somewhere hidden deep under the surface is a hint that it's part of Australia.
I will shortly have photos here, but with a 3am return home, sleep is more pressing.
More later ...
