MT. ALBERT BYELECTION ON 13 JUNE 2009 : The Truth Buried in the Tunnel.
Fascinatingly the lies that eminate from political parties during an election are ever more bizarre, yet they do not fool the informed, only the gullible and stupid.
Let us for a moment consider the cost of the 'Helengrad Memorial Tunnel' ... which Labour are telling us should cost $3.2B ... while the National Government tell us can be replaced by a partial tunnel / partial road system for the same route at a dramatically reduced cost to the country.

1. Labour Option
Cost = $3.2B
300 houses saved
Toll on use of the road
Only 2 lanes each direction (No capacity to expand this).

2. National Government Option
Cost = $1.4B (Saving $1.8B, or around $1000 per taxpayer!!!)
Capacity to expand to 3 lanes each direction (which we all know will soon be required)
NO TOLL !!!

The additional cost is the loss of 300 houses, while saving the entire country $1.8B. This is a recession, and every dollar saved will help, yet Labour are still in the same dreamland they were in for the last 9 years. Where will we find $1.8B in a recession and when this amounts to $6Million to save each house is it really cost effective??? When we look at the $6M to save each house it puts the entire fiasco in perspective.

Would you vote for a party willing to pay $6M per household to buy their votes in a byelection???
Is this a byelection or a 'buy election'???
